About the Author
Now living on the West Coast, Guy Marchi, the son of Italian immigrants, grew up in rural B.C. Having kept a journal nearly his whole life, Marchi set out to write this, his first memoir and second book, recounting his personal and professional experiences from 1966 to the present day. As this book attests, these experiences were extraordinary, seeing him travelling much of the world and achieving incredible feats both personally and in his careers as both a musician and an athlete.

Some life stories beggar belief . . . even those of people we may yet to hear of.
In this astonishing memoir, author Guy Marchi recounts the truly extraordinary story of his life. Born and raised in small-town British Columbia, Marchi’s experiences have been unbelievable. He enjoyed a successful musical career, travelling much of the world, spending years touring Southeast Asia and earned his name into the Guinness Book of World Records for most instruments played (186). Not only did he have an incredible musical career, though—he also became a high-ranking athlete, running marathons, setting power-lifting records, placing nationally as a cyclist, and winning the Fitness Canada competition. Beyond this, Marchi has had a number of other extraordinary experiences, including living in India as a beggar, being forced to run—on foot—from a criminal inquest, sailing the Caribbean for two years, and building an immaculate two-story authentic log house with the logs cut from his own land. |
Striking, evocative, and dynamic, Marchi’s is a truly incredible story of what one might accomplish in a single lifetime—if only you set your mind to it.

I finished reading your book, and I cannot express to you the feelings that have remained afterward. It felt like I was right there with you - in laughter, in joy, but often in complete terror over some of your life stories. I found myself with a huge smile on my face thinking of your mother on her trips with you. And then with tears in my eyes as you described your grief over your two cats Cayo and Buddy. You have lived a truly full life - done more at such a young age than most people will probably ever do their entire lives. Yet you continue to push yourself. Your curiosity about the world has rewarded you with a multitude of once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
I am so proud of all you have accomplished in life, whether it be wild dog attacks, poisonous spiders, uncooperative camels, or rough seas, it was your path to find your way through.

Wow, Guy! What a piece of work! Couldn't put it down! You had me smiling, saddened, giggling, crying, laughing, and wondering what would happen next the whole time! And of course, much of it was so awesome to read as it made me reminisce as well. You have done a wonderful job of tying your life all up in one place, and including all your favorite sayings and tidbits of wisdom! The world certainly needs to read it!
Wonderful book, Guy! I rarely do a read over a couple of days like this, but as I said, I could not put your book down!
Congratulations on it being on the Best Sellers list!

Wow, I have heard about some of those stores but not all of them by any means. Pretty incredible! Thank you for the kind mention by the way. Made me tear up a bit, as did the chapter on Buddy. Pretty incredible that you were able to not only do all that but then recount it.

This is a daring tale of mishap, mayhem and misadventure. As a young man fronting a young band, Marchi learns much about human nature and self-preservation. He also became a highly trained athlete and competed at the national level. He traveled widely and learned to sail in the Caribbean. His tales speak of the naïveté of his youthful spirit and the wonder of experiencing so many countries and cultures. He binds the stories together with his underlying belief of leaving every living thing in a better place than he found it. Most amazing to me is that he has lived through all of these near-death experiences and had the foresight to keep a journal so that the details are at hand to recount in the book.
